Inertization treatment

Inertization, through a chemical and physical process, allows reducing waste polluting potential.

Generally, this process consists in the incorporation of polluting substances in an inert matrix, through processes that can be divided into:

  • Stabilization or solidification, obtained with inorganic reagent-based hydraulic binders (for ex. concrete, lime, clay)
  • Stabilization or solidification obtained through organic reagents (ex. thermoplastic materials, macro-encapsulating compounds, polymers)
  • Vitrification and glass-ceramic process ("waste thermal destruction").

The aim is to diminish the waste polluting potential and dangerousness making them suitable for landfill disposal for non-hazardous waste, or recovery where possible.
